Experience in detail
The construction of the Dancing House was completed in 1996 and the house is located on the right bank of the Vltava on the corner of Rašínovo nábřeží and Jiráskova náměstí. An apartment building used to stand on the same site in the past but it was accidentally destroyed by an American bomb during the air bombing of Prague in 1945. Since then, space has been empty. The dancing house was designed by the Croatian architect Vlado Milunić together with Frank O. Gehry. The building was awarded the prestigious prize of the American Time magazine - it won the category of design in 1996.
The building is metaphorically called the Dancing House or also Ginger and Fred. It is named this way because of the towers reminding of the famous dancers Ginger Rogers and Fred Astair. The male part of the dancing couple is represented by a rock tower and the woman is symbolized by a tower made of glass.
At present, there is a hotel inside the house and also offices, cafe and gallery, which is accessible to visitors and is focused on the best of Czech and world design. On the top floor of the Dancing House, there is a bar and a viewing terrace with a magnificent view of Prague.
