What to Expect
Prague: Charles IV's Museum: A Day in the Middle AgesWalk through the Prague of Charles IV exactly as a medieval person lived it – from dawn to nightfall of one single day.
We'll take you into a bustling medieval marketplace, rich with the scents of oriental spices and fresh fish – but also into a world of stench, noise and the everyday chaos of the fourteenth century. We'll show you a city known only to those who once lived in it.
We'll teach you to read Prague like an open book. House signs, hidden codes on the façades, stories buried in the cobblestones beneath your feet. We'll slip through forgotten passageways and bring to life astonishing fates that never made it into ordinary guidebooks – fantastical, yet historically true.
We'll guide you safely through grand boulevards and the darkest corners of the Old and New Town alike. And that's a good thing – because in the Middle Ages, you would never have wandered these places alone. Least of all after dark, when the city sank into total blackness, and the only people in the streets were night watchmen with torches, arresting anyone they caught out at night. The guilty and the innocent alike.
What cruel punishment awaited adulterers? Where exactly did the city executioner live – and why did people need him, yet refuse to have him among them? And was the medieval underworld truly as dangerous as the legends claim?
Step seven centuries back in time with us. And finally learn how to see.
