This audio guide takes you around Hradčany, the historic district right beside Prague Castle — a baroque pilgrimage site, a lane of tiny coloured cottages that almost nobody finds, and a square lined with palaces at the castle gates.
Your visit starts at the Loreto, one of Prague's most important pilgrimage sites. Hidden inside stands a copy of a small stone house from Nazareth — the house where, according to Christian tradition, the Virgin Mary lived. The guide starts outside, with the story of the place and its famous carillon. Inside, it takes you to the highlights — the Santa Casa, the cloister, the baroque church and the treasury — and leaves you free to explore at your own pace.
Then you step outside — and the walk begins.
You will descend into Nový Svět, a lane of tiny coloured houses where the noise of the city stops. Tycho Brahe lived here in 1600. Allen Ginsberg visited in 1965. And almost every house carries a golden name — you will find out why.
From there you climb back up to Hradčany Square — the square everyone crosses on the way to the castle, and almost nobody stops at. You will discover its renaissance palaces, a baroque plague column, and a gas lamp that still burns with a real flame.
Your walk ends at a viewpoint over the red rooftops of Prague.

We recommend doing the walk during daylight hours, as it ends at a viewpoint over the city.
Opening hours
The Loreto is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Allow at least one hour for your visit inside.
